Google Maps Now Supports Full Offline Mode & SD Card Map Storage

Google Maps with ‘Offline areas’ has become a necessity these days. Think of any road trip, somewhere far where you have never been and you will automatically want to store that area in your Google Maps app (via offline places) and add desired pitstops.
It won’t be wrong to say that Google Maps has become an integral part of our lives. The users can now even edit maps and insert suggestions in Google Maps. I always keep my ‘Offline areas’ updated even when I have no plans to travel outside the city. Doing this not only gives me peace of mind, but also makes me ready to traverse those unknown areas of my city without asking for directions.
“Once you’ve switched to “Wi-fi only”, the Google Maps app will work completely offline — no Wi-Fi needed! You will still be able to use other apps and the rest of your phone as you normally would. And you might even save on battery life too. If you need to see what the traffic is like or update your offline maps, you can easily switch back to online mode by changing your setting or finding the nearest Wi-Fi,” said Sanket Gupta, Product Manager, Google Maps.

Google Maps supports offline areas for a while now, but the latest update adds support for ‘WiFi only’ mode letting youuse it completely offline even when the other apps are connected to the internet via mobile data. This would let yousave a lot of mobile data during those long road trips or to places with expensive cellular data.
The ‘WiFi only’ mode would also help save your phone’s battery while offering a seamless offline navigation experience.

Google Maps Becomes Entry-level Smartphones Friendly

Also with this update you would now be able to save offline areas in Google Maps on your entry-level Android smartphones too. While saving offline areas to internal memory has never been an issue for those with mid-range and high-end phones, people with affordable phones (4-8 GB ROM) have had difficulty in storing offline mode in Google Maps.
Entry-level smartphone users what it’s like when they can’t try a new app just because their phone doesn’t have sufficient free storage. Thankfully with this new update, they can now store offline areas in SD card too.
“Now, in addition to saving an area of the maps for offline use later, if you have a device that supports SD cards, you can opt to save your downloaded maps to an external SD card (if your device supports them) and free up storage space for important stuff like your holiday snaps or road trip playlists. Now you’ll never have to choose between snapping more food photos or the ability to navigate offline,” Sanket explained.
Another change that comes with this new update to Google Maps is new options for ride services in various cities across Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Currently Google Maps in India shows ride services only fromUber and Ola. We are expecting that Google will soon add more ride services to Google Maps in India too.

Facebook’s New Algorithm Update Aims To End Click-Bait Era!

World’s largest social network, Facebook, is plagued with clickbait titles by blogs and media corporations trying to lure people and increase views on their articles or productions. Facebook did modify its algorithm to tweak news feed and reduce the irrelevant contents, but the changes really didn’t make an impact.
The California-based social networking site has now released an update that aims to tone down clickbait titles and show you the most relevant content. Facebook executives claim that their main aim is to rank content and provide the best experience to its users.
You might see statements like “…And what happens next is hard to believe”, “..And you’ll get shocked by what you see!”, “..And his reaction was priceless” and “…You cannot guess what happened next.” in article and video titles that have regular content but the creators are trying to increase the views on their piece of work.
This is a very smart, and annoying, strategy adopted by content producers these days, and people often fall into the trap, finding themselves irritated by the content. This often leads to poor user experience on the news feed, directly affecting Facebook’s user engagement.
“To address this feedback from our community, we’re making an update to News Feed ranking to further reduce clickbait headlines in the coming weeks. With this update, people will see fewer clickbait stories and more of the stories they want to see higher up in their feeds,” the blog post mentions.

How is Facebook modifying its algorithm?

We regularly see pages with clickbait titles and posts and more often than not, end up closing Facebook altogether. Their older algorithm might have worked for a few, but overall the update wasn’t any promising. With this new update, Facebook is finally doing what we had hoped from them.
Now the company will scan specific clickbait titles, or identify titles that look like clickbaits and categorize them. Now there are two broad key points that Facebook will look into while deciding the relevance of the article –
  1. Does the article contain what it says in the headline? Is the information complete and relevant?
  2. Is the information provided exaggerated and is the title misleading?
So the next time you see an article saying “Do not go running in the morning because..”, do not click it just because it’s stating something readers might not know. In fact in most cases, you will already have knowledge about the conclusions, and you’ll end up wasting your time. If the article has content that is completely exaggerated and focuses on just one point which is irrelevant, Facebook will be removing the content from your feed.
This algorithm is what spam email filters also do, that look out for suspicious titles and block malicious content. The company will look at the title as well as the content through this algorithm and make sure you get the best content on your news feed.

Will this actually help?

To be honest, spam filters have worked wonders for me 99% of the time and they keep irrelevant mails in the spam box. Yes, sometimes emails might get mixed up, but errors are bound to happen anywhere.
This new algorithm from Facebook is what users had actually expected the first time, but probably was taking the company longer to implement. This definitely looks promising and interesting because not only with clickbait articles have lower rankings, their pages will automatically be affected.
Facebook clarifies that once the page stops making articles with clickbait titles and irrelevant content, this algorithm won’t rank them lower than before. Our news feed is already filled with so many things, we believe this will help reduce the clutter and clean the content.
The rollout has already started, so let us know in the comments section if you see any visible changes in the quality of the news feed now.

Airtel Launches ‘myPlan Infinity’ With Unlimited Local, STD & National Roaming Calls and 3G/4G data

With Reliance Jio entering the market, major telcos in India are gearing up to face the disruptive service that will attract a lot of people in large and small cities. In a desperate attempt to engage the existing customers, Airtel, Idea and Vodafonehas slashed their data rates.
Airtel launched the flexible ‘myPlan’ in 2013 which aimed at customer engagement by allowing the customer to choose from variety of packs instead of forcing fixed services on the customer. The plan became quite popular, and here comes a huge installment from Airtel.
Ajai Puri, Director – Operations (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel said, “With ‘myPlan Infinity’ we are making voice calls free for our customers and offering them the flexibility to combine this benefit with their individual data requirements. With the new price points, we have made the proposition even more affordable and this will benefit customers with very heavy voice usage.”
The New Delhi-based telecom operator has launched two new myPlan Infinity postpaid plans that offer unlimited voice calls, messaging packs along with bundled 3G/4G data starting at just Rs 1,199. The USP of these postpaid plans is the free unlimited voice calling, not available on other networks with such services.

Airtel postpaid myPlan Infinity

#After the data quota consumption, further data usage will be charged at 50p/MB (billing at per 10kp pulse)

Features of myPlan Infinity

Under the new ‘Infinity’ plans, for Rs. 1,199, customers will enjoy unlimited voice calling – local, STD, and on national roaming – along with 100 SMS per day, 1GB 3G/4G data and free subscription to Wynk Music and Wynk Movies. By unlimited voice calling, Airtel actually means any amount of calling, without a cap.
For Rs. 1,599, customers will get the same benefits as above, except 5G of 3G/4G data instead of just 1GB. Essentially you’re paying Rs. 400 for an extra 4G of data which we think is slightly overpriced and Airtel should’ve charged just Rs. 200 more.
The other two plans that are already there in the market, are priced quite high at Rs. 1,999 and Rs. 2,999 that will offer the same services as the other two plans, except the free data has been capped at 10GB and 20GB. The two new plans are aimed at people who prefer having unlimited calling service instead of more data.
The two plans also provide unlimited subscription to Wynk Music and Wynk Movies, so while you might run out of data, you can easily watch movies and listen to music on WiFi networks. Once all free GBs are exhausted, 50p/MB will be charged for additional data.

Will these cheaper plans be successful?

Unlimited voice calling is sure to attract a lot of people to these plans, and considering they’re just the cheaper versions of the existing Infinity plans, a lot of existing Airtel customers might downgrade to these offers.
Idea Cellular offers a similar plan at Rs. 999 that provides unlimited local and STD minutes and 500 SMS every month. This doesn’t compare to the new plans from Airtel that now only include free data, but also free calls on roaming and full access to its Wynk application. None of the plans right now can probably match these from Airtel.
There are network problems that plague Airtel in its circles, but Airtel has come out with ‘Open Network’ policy that allows its users to keep a check on nearby Airtel towers and lodge a complaint in case of any deficiencies.
This is a plan we have always wanted – unlimited voice calls to anyone in the country, even on roaming. Corporate users will be extremely satisfied with this plan that gives them so much flexibility with data and voice calls. But is it enough to take on Reliance Jio? We will get to know that in a couple of months.

iPhone 7 Plus Video Is Leaked But People Are Upset Because Of This....

Yes, you read it right. Apple is gonna release its Next iPhone in September, but we already have the video. Yeah, it is blue in color.
This YouTube channel UnBox Therapy got the hands on the brand new iPhone 7 Plus and shared a hands-on video comparing it with the iPhone 6 Plus.

It is also confirmed that iPhone 7 will indeed not have a standard 3.5 mm jack. Sorry guys, that's a turn-off. Still, there are a lot of new things are included in this phone which you will know in the video at the end of the story.

Here's the piece of art.

Does it look slimmer than iPhone 6? Not to me.

But blue color looks cool, right?

It's of same length as of iPhone 6 Plus.

They have removed the white lines too.

With this angle, it looks little slimmer than the iPhone 6 Plus.

iPhone 6 Explodes In A Man's Pocket, Leaves Him With Third-Degree Burns!

I'm not an iPhone fan and within next 3 minutes, I know you will join my club of iPhone haters too.
This guy, Gareth Clear decided to go on cycling with his brand new iPhone in his back pocket on a bright sunny day without knowing what's gonna happen next will land him in a hospital. Suddenly he missed a pedal while cycling and lost his balance off the cycle which resulted in an explosion of iPhone in his back pocket, melting away his biking shorts and causing him third-degree burns.
He posted the images of his burns on Twitter to aware people about the potential danger of using such devices.
Read ahead to know more about this unfortunate incident.

He said, "I just saw smoke coming out of my back pocket… and then all of a sudden I felt this surging pain."

"The phone was stuck to my leg having melted through both my shorts and my Skins."

He even saw the "black discharge" all down his leg and there was a "smell of phosphorus."

"The more pervasive these are in our lives and the more people use them with a lack of apprehension that something might go wrong, the more that these things will happen," he said.

This might have happened because of the lithium batteries used in iPhones are prone to the explosion on overheating.

According to Herald, Apple Australia is in direct contact with him now.

Surprising Facts About Steve Jobs

We all know who Steve Jobs is--he's the genius who revolutionized modern technology and the mastermind who emphasized style as much as function in our everyday digital devices.
However, I can bet there are a few facts about Steve Jobs you don't know that would shock you. Learn about the real Steve Jobs with these 43 facts.
  1. Steve Jobs was adopted shortly after being born.
  2. Jobs was, biologically, half Arab. His biological father was Syrian and his mother was American.
  3. Jobs's biological parents had one mandate--that Jobs be adopted by two college-educated people. The biological parents found out that neither Clara nor Paul Jobs had ever graduated from college, but the adoption went through when it was promised that Steve Jobs would receive a university education (funny considering that Jobs went on to become a college dropout).
  4. Jobs and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak met in high school--Wozniak was 18 and Jobs was just 13.
  5. Jobs was a pescetarian, meaning he ate no meat except for fish.
  6. He was an official college dropout, but continued his education by informally auditing classes.
  7. One class Jobs audited was a calligraphy course, which he says was instrumental in the future Apple products' attention to typography and font.
  8. While unofficially attending classes, Jobs struggled to get by. He slept on his friends' dorm room floors, returned Coke bottles for money, and survived off free meals from the local Hare Krishna temple.
  9. He had a pretty low GPA--just 2.65. Jobs admitted he never enjoyed school structure and preferred to learn in unconventional ways.
  10. He spent seven months traveling around India, experimenting with psychedelic drugs and eventually adopting the practices of Zen Buddhism.
  11. Jobs has called experimenting with LSD as "one of the two or three most important things I have done in my life."
  12. Jobs stole from partner and co-founder of Apple Steve Wozniak. When the pair first created the Breakout game for Atari, they planned on splitting the pay 50-50. Although Atari gave Jobs $5,000 for the game, Jobs told Wozniak they got $700, leaving Wozniak to take home $350 while Jobs pocketed the other $4,650.
  13. Jobs was moved to the night shift when working at Atari due to complaints about his hygiene. He rarely showered and would walk around barefoot in the Atari offices.
  14. There was actually a third founder of Apple--Ronald Wayne, who even designed Apple's first logo. Wayne sold his 10 percent stake just two weeks after partnering with Jobs and Wozniak for only $800 (talk about regrets).
  15. The original Apple I computer was priced at $666.66. Don't worry, there was no devil worshipping going on--Jobs and Wozniak just wanted the Apple I to cost one-third more than wholesale ($500).
  16. Jobs was pushed out of his own company in 1985. Despite the fallout, he later recognized the coup as a blessing in disguise, as it gave him a chance to experiment creatively and purchase an animation studio, which would later be known as Pixar. Eventually he rejoined Apple as CEO in 1997 (and revitalized the failing company).
  17. Shortly after being shooed out of Apple, Jobs applied to fly on the Space Shuttle as a civilian astronaut (he was rejected) and even considered starting a computer company in the Soviet Union.
  18. Jobs had an illegitimate child, Lisa Brennan, when he was 23, whose paternity he denied for years. Lisa's mother had to use welfare checks to raise her child. Eventually, Jobs did accept Lisa as his legitimate child, and she changed her name to Lisa Brennan-Jobs.
  19. Despite initially denying paternity, around the time Lisa was born, Jobs named a new Apple computer the Apple Lisa (although Jobs claimed it simply stood for Local Integrated Software Architecture).
  20. While at Apple, Jobs always kept his annual salary at $1. Don't worry, with 5.5 million shares of Apple stock and as the majority shareholder of Disney stock (from selling Pixar), he wasn't quite what you'd call a starving artist.
  21. Jobs ended up connecting later in life with his biological sister, Mona Simpson, whom he grew very close with. Both were naturally artistic and shared much in common.
  22. The movie Anywhere But Here is based on a book written by Jobs's sister, Mona Simpson. The movie is dedicated to Jobs.
  23. Jobs was no philanthropist. In fact, in Apple's early days, he cut the company's philanthropic programs, saying they would return when the company was more profitable. Despite Apple's enormous success, the charitable programs were never reinstated.
  24. Jobs had an entire team devoted to packaging who studied the experience of opening a box to learn how to achieve the excitement and emotional response that is now common with Apple products.
  25. A well-known egomaniac, Jobs was infamous for being difficult and demanding. In 1993, he held a spot on Fortune's list of America's Toughest Bosses.
  26. Jobs was not always friendly with journalists and the media, wanting to retain total control of Apple's impression on the public. Apple even sued teenager Nicholas Ciarelli for his Think Secret blog, where he revealed rumors and secret details about upcoming Apple products.
  27. Jobs is listed as either primary inventor or co-inventor for 346 United States patents related to a range of technologies, with most of the patents being for design.
  28. Jobs had romantic relationships with Joan Baez and Diane Keaton.
  29. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak notes that Jobs never learned how to code.
  30. Bill Clinton once invited Jobs to spend the night sleeping in the Lincoln bedroom of the White House.
  31. Apple has been ranked No. 1 on Fortune's list of America's most admired companies.
  32. Jobs harbored an intense dislike for PCs, and is quoted as saying to one friend, "I'd rather sell dog shit than PCs."
  33. He never put license plates on his silver Mercedes (despite driving it constantly). How did he do it? California has a rule that a car owner has six months to put plates on a new car. Jobs just changed cars (to the identical model) every six months, allowing him to drive without plates.
  34. Jobs often parked in spots reserved for the handicapped.
  35. Jobs originally did not want to offer his products in white, but he was swayed after being introduced to the "moon gray" shade. Pretty surprising considering the iconic clean, white look of Apple products today.
  36. Jobs actually served as a mentor for Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, even sharing some of his advisers with the Google duo.
  37. Jobs was furious when Google created its Android devices, entering as an Apple competitor in the phone market.
  38. Jobs was found to have pancreatic cancer in 2003, but rather than taking the doctor-recommended path of immediate operation, Jobs subscribed to an alternative-medicine regimen, including a vegan diet, acupuncture, and herbal remedies, even consulting a psychic.
  39. After nine months, Jobs gave in and underwent surgery. Many consider the delay a major factor in his eventual decline.
  40. Apple, Microsoft, and Disney properties (including Disneyland and Disney World) flew their flags at half-staff when Jobs died.
  41. His last words on his deathbed were, "Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow," while gazing over his family's shoulders.
  42. Tim Cook revealed in a 2014 interview that Jobs's main office and nameplate are still as they were in 2011, when Jobs passed away.
  43. Sunday, October 16, 2011, was declared Steve Jobs Day by the governor of California, Jerry Brown
